The man and the woman, who were identified as the parents, were aged 36 and 37. Their children included 14-year-old and 11-year-old boys, as well as a 12-year-old girl. To date, the investigating officers have yet to determine the cause of the demise of the five victims.
In an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune, the investigating officers disclosed that no trace of carbon monoxide had been found in scene. This declaration followed the tests conducted by the responding firefighters. However, the officers clarified that the observation was not conclusive as there existed the possibility for the aforementioned gas to have ventilated prior to the tests.
"Right now there's no known cause of death," Caron was quoted declaring during an evening press briefing in front of the duplex. "There's nothing obvious," he added.
Prior to the discovery of the bodies, one of the relatives of the family claimed to have spoken with them on Saturday morning. Authorities shared that the bodies were later on found when the same person decided to visit the family's home on Saturday night.
Caron claimed that investigators are still in the process of analyzing the situation as no immediately noticeable cause or reason for the deaths had been observed by the police. Despite the shocking number of people found dead in one home, however, authorities have asserted that the public and the surrounding communities need not be anxious over any threat or danger stemming from the incident.
In describing the scene, the abovementioned paper disclosed that the house where the five bodies were found was a duplex. However, the proximity of the deaths to the other residents in the area reportedly posed no danger as the occupants of the other half of the structure were all unhurt.
