The seven final racers were: Chinese Tian Yu Han, De Quan Chen, Canadian C Hamelin, Russian Victor An, Korean Hanbin Lee, American J.R. Celski, and British Jack Whelbourne.
After the final began, as the only one team with group advantage in the final, Chinese racers conducted active strategy. The two racers, Han and Chen, took the lead in the first two positions at the beginning. After seeing this form, the famous Hamelin fast generated his power and pushed himself to the first position with the advantage of inner circle. Han and Chen were right behind him.
This form had been keeping to the middle of the race. When there were 8 rounds left, Celski in the back was ready to catch up and get the lead position. In the next round, many racers increase their skating speed making chaos in the race course. However, Han got the lead position back in the chaos. At the same time, Chen fell to the last place.
In the last fifth round, Hamelin got back to the first place, Han was following him in the second place, as well as An came to the third place. Entering to the last round, these three races were apparently in the lead. Due to the fastest speed they were already skating with, they did not have a chance to pass each other. Finally, Hamelin passed the finish line in 2 minutes 14 seconds 985 wining the first gold medal of short track speed skating in this Olympics. Han got silver in 2 minutes 15 seconds 055 equalizing the best score of Jia Jun Li in winter Olympics that Chinese male racers got. An received bronze medal, trailing Han by 0.07 seconds.
