Google Chrome To Get A “Mute Tab” Option In The Browser? Google Says They Are Experimenting On The Feature

Google has responded to queries and requests from Chrome users to include a mute tab option as a stock feature for the Chrome browser.

Peter Kasting, a software engineer at Google, said through a Google+ post that despite the clamor to have the mute tab option feature to be included in the next update of the Chrome browser, it is not yet sure if the feature will go through the Google Canary (the testing phase) or even reach a stable release, but the Chrome team is definitely experimenting on the possibility of the option to be a stock feature in the browser.

Just this year, Google added a speaker icon feature on the Chrome browser that tells which among the open tabs is playing an audio. However, it does not automatically identify which part of the page (ads, main content, etc.) brings the audio, thus, making the users have to look for it in the whole page. In addition to that, the icon was mistaken for a mute tab option, where users can manually shut the audio off.

Meanwhile, a Chrome extension that is available for free download at the Chrome store has been recommended to be used while the mute tab option from Google has not been materialized yet. The extension named "Mute Inactive Tabs" can solve all unnecessary audio noise from any of the tabs open in the Chrome browser as it automatically mutes the sound from any tabs that is not actively used. It comes in handy as the speaker icon of the extension appears just beside the address bar and can be toggled on and off by the user. The extension has been updated a few days ago and receives positive reviews from downloaders. The "Mute Inactive Tabs" Chrome extension if available in Deutsch and English language.
