Amazon.com, Inc. officially completed its acquisition of the gaming video service Twitch after a new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Amazon announced it purchased all outstanding shares of Twitch Interactive, Inc. for approximately US$970 million (£597m) in cash.

Reports said Amazon's purchase was confirmed through an SEC filing, which simply stated that "On September 25, 2014, Amazon.com, Inc. completed its acquisition of Twitch Interactive, Inc."
Last August, Amazon publicly declared its intentions to acquire Twitch after internet giant Google backed out in buying the popular game streaming service.
Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said in an interview they chose Amazon because the online retailer believes in their community and they share similar values and long-term visions.
Shear also explained his company will still have independence from Amazon.
"We're keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon's support we'll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch," Shear confirmed.
The online gaming company's popularity and influence has increased rapidly. Based on some reports, Twitch had around 55 million unique visitors and 15 billion minutes of viewed content in July.
