Using Google Glass while Driving is Dangerous, Study Says

New scientific research says driving while texting with Google Glass isn't safe.
Researchers at the University of Central Florida conducted an experiment with 40 participants in their twenties. Each person had to use either Google Glass or a smartphone while driving a car simulator.

Participants were examined based on their response to an incoming vehicle by hitting the brakes as they used the hands-free eye wear and mobile device while driving.
Compared to smartphone users, Glass wearers were no better at hitting their brakes in time. But the latter recovered faster and returned to normal driving after the close call, said lead researcher Ben Sawyer.
Glass users displayed some areas of improved performance in recovering from near-collisions. The Google device, however, "did not improve their response to the event itself," Sawyer added.
Researchers also found out that Glass drivers tend to drive closer to the car ahead of them, which gives them less time to react. This suggests using the wearable device could also cause drivers to lose control when driving.
"While Glass-delivered messaging has benefits, it does not in any way make driving-while-messaging safe," Sawyer explained.
The study findings indicated that texting while driving, with either a smartphone or Glass, will cause distractions and should be avoided on the road.
