2742 Taiwan couples register for marriage at Household Registration Office on Western Valentines' Day, breaking a new record of the numbers of registration for marriage on February 14 since marriage registration system put into effect about 5 years ago.
401 couples registered for marriage in Taibei City yesterday; every household registration office prepared small gifts for the newly-married couples. Xinyi District prepared red envelopes, while Daan District had greeting cards ready. Zhongshan District prepared a pair of heart shape key ring for every couple, and Datong District was ready to give a pair of bowl for each couple. Shilin District gave out roses and chocolate, wishing newly-married couples sweetness and happiness.

Heng Liu, 35, went to household registration office with his newly-married wife, Zhen Lin. They chose yesterday to register not only because it was both Western and Chinese Valentines' Day but also the 8th anniversary for falling in love; It would become marriage anniversary for them in the future.
The new household registration system had some issues yesterday. The system was dead twice for 10 to 20 minutes in the morning. The main reasons were the unstableness of the system and unfamiliar system operation of the staff. After repairing the system, the newly-married couples registered successfully at the end.
So many couples chose 2014 Valentines' Day to get married due to the numbers of the date's partial tone. For example, 2/14/2013's partial tone in Chinese is the romantic "love you in all my life", and 2/14/2014's partial tone in Chinese has the same meaning as last year's.
In recent years, young couples prefer partial tones of numbers. For example, 9/9/2010 means "love each other forever", and 10/10/2011 has the meaning of "perfection". 5/20/2013 was a popular date for registration for marriage, meaning "I love you and love you in all my life."
