Zhou Yang Wins 2nd Straight Gold in Women’s 1,500 Short Track

Zhou Yang of China won the women's 1,500-meter short track gold medal, successfully defending the Olympic title she won four years ago. Shim Suk-hee of South Korea earned the silver. Arianna Fontana of Italy took the bronze, earning her second short track medal of these games.

Zhou has been keeping clam since she came to Sochi. Zhou said "I have been trying me best in each race since I won in Vancouver."

Short track ice skating always has suspense. From the group race, many famous racers failed. The three Korean racers could not all enter into the final together; the veteran racer, Haili Zhao was out in advance.

This is the first time in the history that Chinese racers defend this long distance short track gold medal. After the game, Yan Li, the coach of Chinese short track ice skating team jumped and hugged Zhou, her student.

She excitedly said, "Zhou Yang proves her strong by her action, helping Chinese team to make the victory of 'nothing to lose' come true."

Li talked about the preparation of this game, "We would like to pay attention to the process not the result at the period of preparation I told the team yesterday that let it go no matter you won or failed before. We really don't have time to think about pain or thankfulness. We have to look forward."

Comparing to the coach's excitement, Zhou was still very claim after victory. She said, "When I won the gold medal four years ago, I just wanted to give my parents a better life; after I experienced so many difficulties in the past four years and still can stand in the highest podium today, I prove to myself that my decision of not retire is definitely right. I am not willing to only win one piece of gold medal."
