A Shanghai-based laundry company will be fined after stirring public order, said local authorities.

This was after Tidy Laundry Co hired several young women to undress while aboard a Metro train. The ad was supposed to promote the company’s brand, reported Shanghai Daily.

The laundry company wrote an apology on its website for the advertising scheme that happened on Saturday. The company affirmed paying these young ladies while on board the train while filming an ad campaign last week. The video was then uploaded online that caused great debate from netizens.

The video showcased two women starting to take off their clothes while inside the full-packed Metro train.

While the women were almost off to taking their underwear, a man wearing the company’s uniform boarded the Metro Line 2 train. He took their clothes, got a notebook and had one of the women write something on it.

Tidy Laundry Co said the video was filmed on Wednesday aboard the Metro train. The company also added even the passengers aboard the train were paid actors and actresses for the ad campaign. The company also said the ad was supposed to promote an on-call service brand but was done in an exaggerated manner. Furthermore, after a public uproar, the company admitted it was a wrong advertising move.

However, the Metro police went to the company on Friday and imposed a fine for disturbing public order. The amount was not revealed, reported Shanghai Daily.

Authorities said any company intending to shoot a video within the Metro should apply for necessary permits. Any advertisement should be approved by them and the train operator, Shanghai Shentong Group, police said.

The authorities also added they are probing on the company’s advertisement campaign to see if it had broken provisions of the advertising law. Furthermore, the police said a clause in the advertising policy says that any campaign must not have a negative influence to the society.
