School authority posted an official new on sina weibo on 4/15/2013 that a medical graduate student was in hospital due to physical issues. Because of the severe illness, school has already invited experts to consult for many times. The cause of the illness has not been found. School invites police to investigate the issue. On 4/16, Huang died.
After onsite investigations and interviews, police locked on Huang's roommate, Senhao Lin, as an important suspect. On 4/19, Shanghai police arrested Lin with the crime of intentional homicide.
On 11/27, the Second Shanghai Intermediate People's Court held a hearing on this case. Prosecutors charged that Huang and Lin lived in one dormitory. Because they did not get along well with each other, Lin hated Huang gradually. By the end of March 2013, Lin decided to kill Huang by poisoning. In the afternoon on 3/31, Lin got a reagent bottle and injector filled with poisoned chemicals dimethylnitrosamine from medical imaging laboratory of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, where Lin had interned with. Around 5:50 p.m., Lin filled the poisoned chemicals into water fountain at the dorm. The next morning, Huang drank the water from the water fountain, then vomited immediately, and was sent to hospital.
After evaluation, Huang died because of dimethylnitrosamine poisoning, leading to organs including liver and kidney damage and failure.
Lin states that Huang had said he wanted to fool people on April Fool's Day, so Lin got the idea to fool Huang by poisoning. He said he got along so-so with Huang and did not have direct conflicts, but he just disliked him a little bit. Huang considered himself always right, according to Lin.
Lin said that Huang did not drink so much poisoning water. Because a big rat did not completely die after injected dimethylnitrosamine in his experiment, Lin thought Huang would be fine. That is why Lin did not stop Huang drinking the water.
