Microsoft's Xbox One launched in China on Monday, months after Beijing lifted the ban on foreign-made gaming consoles.

Though a limited edition of the console named "China Day One" was made available to the Chinese public, a few popular games are still off-limits because of government restrictions. The special edition, which can be purchased at over 4,000 retailers in China, comes with the Kinect sensor and has a number of free games including "Forza Motorsport 5," "Kinect Sports Rivals," "Neverwinter Online" and "Powerstar Golf."

Other available titles for Chinese gamers are "Dance Central Spotlight," "Max: The Curse of Brotherhood," "Rayman Legends," "Zoo Tycoon," "Trials Fusion" and Naughty Kitties.

Popular games such as "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Day Zero Edition," "Destiny" and "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" are still missing since games should be first approved by the Chinese government before being sold to consumers.

But according to Bloomberg, regulators are cautious of games with violent content, something that may prove problematic for the first-person shooters enumerated.

"I'm not interested in any of the 10 games provided on the Xbox now," one Chinese Xbox One buyer and developer said of the titles released in China. "I'm waiting for Halo and Titanfall."

Microsoft, which partnered with BesTV New Media, does have a set of over 70 games that both companies are toiling to bring to China. These include titles such as "Killer Instinct" and "Halo," said Microsoft spokeswoman Steffi Cao.

The China Day One edition with the Kinect is retailing in China for US$700, while an equivalent edition in the United States currently goes for US$500. The actual hardware price is, however, "unique to each market based on market conditions, tax, tariff and exchange rates," Cao said.
