Shanghai drivers have been witnessing cats being tossed out of several moving cars on highways for the past several months.
The drivers said kittens were being thrown out of vehicles, reported Shanghai Times. Some of the drivers have attempted to rescue the animals, but those which were rescued showed severe injuries on their necks and claws.

Since April, drivers have reported seeing a total of 30 bodies of kittens lying on the highways. A woman identified as Nicole had called the newspaper at one time, saying she was unable to sleep for 48 hours after seeing the scene on highways outside Shanghai.
At the time, rescuers had responded and gone to the highway tunnel where the kittens were reportedly seen. They flooded the area with light, but all they found were lifeless bodies of cats.
Earlier attempts were made to rescue the animals but were interrupted after road officials told them to leave.
Nicole said she is planning to organize a petition asking the government to install cameras on highways. This would enable authorities to apprehend whoever is responsible for the act. Rescuers worry about animal abusers who will not be caught as there had been no legal complaints regarding these cases.
Another woman told the newspaper about an incident where she suddenly hit the brakes after seeing several cats flying out of another moving vehicle. She also added seeing other cars doing the same. The woman said she has joined rescue initiatives to catch the offenders.
A police officer surnamed Chen said this type of incident is difficult to handle. He said people have been calling to complain about animals on the highways. When the police came to approach stray cats and dogs, they would run away, he said. Chen added rescuers should not park their vehicles on highways as this is dangerous, illegal and could be punished.
