Questions about India's participation in the coalition against Daesh surfaced after Subramanina Swamy, Bharatiya Janata Party leader, tweeted "Happy that Modi committed to Obama that India would join the anti-ISIS war. Now Indo-US good relations will reach new unprecedented heights."
The bilateral talks between lasted for 90 minutes and it was a great convergence to discuss international matters such as existing terrorism encounters both in South and West Asia, Modi said in a statement.
A joint statement has been released stating that India and U.S. will work together in targeting the financial support of terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, al-Qaeda, Haqqani network and D-company.
Reports said the two countries have already agreed to cooperate how to counter terrorism and dismantle the "safe havens" of terrorists existing all over the world.
Foreign ministry spokesman Vikam Doraiswamy said India and U.S. have also agreed to stop people in traveling just to participate in terrorist activities both in the West and in all over Asia.
There are 40 Indians who are reportedly being held captive by the ISIL militants.
Also related to the counter-terrorism measures, India is seeking help to locate the whereabouts of the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts identified as Dawoo Ibrahim. The terrorist is believed to be hiding in Pakistan.
Aside from the agreed plans, Modi also talked about the beheading of two American journalists and a British worker during the Council of Foreign Relations in New York on Monday.
Modi noted that terrorism in general was an "unimaginable perversion" and added that the beheadings being shown on television is a challenge, although we are already living in the 21st century. The beheadings can even shake people to the core, resulting in more terror among the public, Modi added.
