The Simple SAM Software in Action

SAM is the new wireless Electronics Kit that is helping people easily connect devices to one another.

The kit uses a series of Bluetooth connected pieces and a simple drag and drop software interface that links the hardware together.

The focus of the SAM Electronics Kit is largely in the software. Included in it are a variety of wireless hardware modules that you can link to such as motors, sliders, LED lights, various and sensors, and so much more.

Apart from pieces of hardware however, the SAM makes it possible to integrate connected objects with digital apps and services.

For instance, one could connect a social network site or email, allowing for a connected "real-world" object to notify you of a Facebook notification or an email.

An article from TechCrunch gave an example of an LED light that flashes every time a Facebook page gets a new like.

The uses of the SAM indeed varied. However, with all its functions and uses, it prides itself on being simple as well as flexible.

The companion SAM App works like a flow-based programming interface that makes use of simple drag and drop software modules to link the hardware. Then it automatically generates codes as the virtual blocks are connected together.

The software lends weight to the credence that children today are getting lazier and taking every step to avoid learning about important coding.

Apart from SAM, Kano has also created a coding kit which combines Raspberry Pi microcomputer with a software layer atop Linux specially designed for learning coding.

There is also an electronics hobby kit called LittleBits, and modular robotics projects like MOSS and Cubelets.

The SAM starts out at US $73 for people who support it on Kickstarter. It is estimated to begin shipping out next March.
