Women’s Volleyball World Championship: China Shuts out Germany; USA, Brazil on Track for Pool Showdown

China shut out Germany in their Pool E matchup while USA and Brazil is on schedule for a showdown at Pool F of the FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship in Italy on Wednesday.
The Chinese nationals have shut out Germany in their first match of the second round 25-16, 25-23, 25-23.

Ting Zhu led China with 19 points, 14 points from attacks, four block points and a service ace while team captain Margareta Kozuch top scored for Germany with 15 points.
China remained on top of Pool E followed by host nation Italy who also won their match against Azerbaijan in four sets 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23.
China will go up against Croatia next while Italy will battle it out against Belgium on Thursday.
In Pool F, the United States started out tense as Turkey forced them into overtime and grabbed the first set 29-27 but Kelly Murphy and Kimberly Hill rallied to turn the match around for the Americans and quickly won the second set.
Both teams held on to their serves in the third set until the very end when the United States pulled ahead 2-1 and went on to finish the match in the fourth set 27-29, 25-19, 25-23, 25-15.
Murphy and Hill both scored 19 points to lead the Americans while team captain Gozde Sonsirma topped the Turkish nationals with 22 points.
USA coach Karch Kiraly, a former Olympic Gold medalist, hopes to end the Americans' drought of a title since the tournament started in 1952.
The United States are on schedule for a showdown against Brazil for the top spot who won their match against Kazakhstan in three straight sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.
Thaisa Menezes led Brazil with 14 points while Radmila Beresneva top scored for Kazakhstan with nine points.
The two-time Olympic Gold medalist Brazil are also starving for their first title in the tournament and are heavily favored after winning the recent World Grand Prix.
