World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and French Open champion Maria Sharapova are the first players in their respective divisions to enter the quarterfinals of the China Open in Beijing on Wednesday.

Djokovic,27, also wants to end the year as No. 1 in the rankings as well as winning the covenant ATP World Tour Finals in London for the third straight year.
"That's why I'm out here in Beijing and Shanghai, competing and trying to get that year-end No. 1," said Djokovic.
The Serb is all set to face the winner between the Grigor Dimitrov and Pablo Andujar matchup.
Also advancing into the quarterfinals in the men's division is American John Isner who came back after losing the first set against Tommy Robredo of Spain 3-6 7-5 7(7)-6(4).
The eighth seeded Isner awaits the winner of the matchup between third seeded Tomas Berdych and Serbian wild card Viktor Troicki.
In the women's division, fourth seeded Sharapova surged into the quarters after defeating Carla Suarez Navarro in two straight sets 6-1 7(7)-6(3).
The 2012 finalist will face the winner of the clash between Angelique Kerber and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Australian Samantha Stosur won the upset of the day as she defeated sixth seeded Caroline Wozniacki in two sets 6-4 7(11)-6(9).
The 2010 champion Wozniacki now puts herself in a hot spot for a position at the year-ending WTA Finals in Singapore.
Wozniacki is currently eighth in the list and after losing her match in the second round match, she not only put herself in jeopardy but literally gave two other spots away in Eugenie Bouchard and Agnieszka Radwanska.
Only two spots left to fill the eight-woman short list and Kerber is in the forerunner to go past Wozniacki.
Petra Kvitova also saw action Wednesday against China's Peng Shuai in their second round match whom she defeated 6-4 6-2 and have set up a battle against Venus Williams.
