Shanghai Woman Falls Off Subway Platform Due to Cell Phone

A woman in her 50s recently fell off the subway platform at Shanghai's Honggiao station while attending to her cell phone, prompting subway authorities to issue reminders to passengers to be extra careful when getting on and off trains.
In the 30-second surveillance video released by the subway company, the female passenger can be seen taking out her cell phone as she walked toward the platform. Her attention was so totally focused on the cell phone that she did not realize she was approaching the edge, ultimately falling onto the tracks within seconds.

The Shanghai Subway Operator confirmed that the incident happened at 1 p.m. on February 21 while the woman was waiting for a train at the Hongqiao Road platform along with other passengers.
Luckily, there was no train approaching, the operator said, and the woman was immediately pulled out of the tracks by subway staff and that she was fine.
Not a few subway passengers have placed themselves in danger by attending to their cell phones. In August last year, a girl had one of her legs pinned in the narrow space between train and platform because she was also looking at her phone while getting off Train No.8. Firemen had rescued the girl with a jack.
