A Florida man, identified as Michael Dunn, was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday after being convicted of first degree murder for killing an unarmed black teenager in Jacksonville, Florida in 2012 following an argument over loud music.
47-year-old Dunn, who is a software engineer from Brevard County, Fl., noted that he was just defending himself from the threat posed by 17-year-old Jordan Davis, who was in an SUV with three other teens on November 2012 at a gas station.

Davis and his friends stopped by the gas station to buy gum and cigarettes and ran into Dunn who was attending a wedding in the area.
In a testimony by Dunn, he alleged that he approached the teenagers and asked if they could turn the music down but the teenagers refused. Dunn added that one of them had a gun on him and made verbal threats against his life.
However, investigators said that Davis was unarmed and no guns or other weapons were seen in the vehicle. The three teenagers also testified that they did not in any way threaten Dunn.
Dunn reportedly fired ten rounds at the SUV after a heated conversation between him and Davis erupted and he continued to shoot at the vehicle as the teenagers drove away.
The jury announced their verdict after reviewing the case for five hours. Dunn already had an initial trial last February and was convicted of three counts of attempted murder when he reportedly fired at the other three teenagers - all of which walked away uninjured.
Florida law states that Dunn's life in prison sentence without parole will be implemented in addition to the 60 years for the three counts announced in February.
According to State Attorney Angela Corey, the incident was far beyond self-defense as Dunn did not even bother to call 911 after the incident. Dunn was questioned as to why he fled the scene of the crime without notifying authorities and answered it was due to fear and shock.
The parents of Davis, Ron Davis and Lucy McBath, have expressed their thoughts about the decision reached by the jury. They said: ""There are not words to express our joy and our great sorrow. We know that Jordan has received his justice."
