"Doctor Zhivago" To Open On Broadway In April

Last Wednesday, the producers of the "Doctor Zhivago" musical announced that the production will be opening on Broadway in April 21, 2015. The first show will be at the Broadway Theatre in New York and will be directed by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff.
According to McAnuff, "Working on this has given us all on the team the kind of emotional inspiration that we hope to pass on to New York audiences. The story of Doctor Zhivago is just as pertinent today as it was 50 years ago. It continues to advance on the edge of time."

Music for the musical was composed by Lucy Simon, while the lyrics were penned by Michael Korie and Amy Powers.
Among the show's Broadway producers Chun-Soo Shin, the Korean impresario who helped to produce the musical in Seoul.
The production has undergone several revisions since 2006 and, the producers of the said musical revealed that they are continuously tweaking the script in preparation for the 2015 debut.
So far, no casting announcements have been made.
Preview performances will begin on March 27 in New York and, the first block of tickets for the show will be on sale beginning November 10.
The musical is based on the 1957 Russian novel by Boris Pasternak of the same name, whose story revolves around the fictional character of physician Yuri Zhivago. It is a tale of love and loss set amidst the turmoil and chaos of war and revolution during the early twentieth century.
Since its publication, the story has made its way to film, television and now, musical theater.
The musical made its debut in 2006 at the La Jolla Playhouse. From then on, the musical has been produced in Australia where it ran in the Lyric Theater in Sydney and toured in 2011. It has also made its way to Seoul, South Korea in 2012.
