Apple has just released a new Activation Lock Status tool that allows potential buyers to know if the iOS device they plan to buy is legit and not stolen.
An Activation Lock, also called a kill switch, is a "security feature," DownloadBlog reported.
This tool prevents anyone from erasing or activating any Apple product that has been reported lost, stolen, passed on or sold to another person.

Reports said when the "Activation Lock" on the handset is switched on, that means the device can't be used without the previous owner's Apple username and password.
With the launch of the new iCloud tool, Apple has made the process of using the Activation Lock easier.
Users can enter the iOS device's serial number or its International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), an identification number assigned to each gadget, on the tool. After that, the Activation Lock Status checker will determine if the kill switch feature is enabled.
This web tool also prevents theft and protects lost iOS devices from reactivating the handset under a different name.
The Activation Lock checking process is useful for people that plan to purchase second-hand Apple products. Before buying a used iPhone or iPad, however, users should ask for the identification number to gain access to the device.
