Initial reservations for Apple's new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus hit the 2 million mark in China in the first six hours, reports said Thursday.

According to Sina, a Chinese online media company, reservations for the new iPhone models have spread across China through the country's three major mobile carriers.

Earlier this week, Apple released an official statement indicating the company will only start selling iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus on October 17 in local Apple stores and other authorized resellers.

Online pre-orders are set for October 10 and early buyers can have in-store reservations beginning Tuesday, October 14, reports confirmed.

Although official pre-orders start on October 10, this didn'tstop China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom from offering pre-sale reservations early.

Some sources claim the majority of reservations were for the 64 GB iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus models, which cost 6,088 yuan (US$991) and 6,888 yuan (US$1,121), respectively. Apple's new iPhone models will be available in three colors: gold, silver, and gray.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) only approved Apple's network access last Tuesday after the company agreed to improve user security and privacy.

The first weekend sales of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus across 10 launch countries had reached 10 million, Apple reported.
