Sexual assault group RAINN has slammed Maroon 5 for its new music video "Animal", condemning it for being "dangerous" and referring to it as a "stalker's fantasy".
In the said video, frontman Adam Levine plays a a butcher obsessed with groping animal carcasses and fantasizing about a woman played by Levine's real-life wife Behati Prinsloo. The perverted character stalks the woman, breaks into her home and crawls into bed with her while she sleeps - all the while, the woman is unaware of his presence. His fantasy then turns into a sexual blood bath.

Katherine Hull Fliflet, RAINN's vice president of communications, stated that the video promotes sexual violence and is a dangerous depiction of a stalker mistaking sexual violence with romantic love. Flilflet condemns the video, sharing that it trivializes serious crimes, such as stalking, and beliefs such as that has "no place in the entertainment industry".
RAINN isn't the only one openly sharing its disgust over the video. Several fans of the band took to social media to express their outrage over the concept as well.
But then again, the song simply mirrors the lyrics of the song - which should have been the first thing fans should have criticized in the beginning.
The song features lines such as "eah, you can start over, you can run free / You can find other fish in the sea / You can pretend it's meant to be / But you can't stay away from me."
The band has yet to release a statement regarding the criticisms, but Levine has shared in a previous interview that he was excited with the concept of the video.
"It's really dark ... and weird and cool ... It's really crazy," he shared.
Prinsloo, on the other hand, looked at the video's release as good timing - just in time for Halloween.
"It's out and its bloody, ready for Halloween
