D' Agosto will be playing Dent during his younger, idealistic days; but the character's tendency towards villainy will also be subtly shown in the said series.

In the future, Dent will serve as the city's District Attorney - its white knight - who eventually falls victim to mob boss Salvatore Maroni. Maroni will be responsible for Dent's future disfigurement and, eventual shift from hero to villain.

David Zayas will be portraying Maroni in the "Gotham".

D'Agosto is currently part of the cast of the hit series "Masters of Sex" and has appeared in other television shows including "ER", "Supernatural", "Heroes" and the American version of "The Office".

"Gotham" revolves around the story of the city when crime ruled the streets and Batman was still yet to be.

Aside from the criminal activity in the city, the series revolves around a young Jim Gordon, finding his way back to his native Gotham as a rookie cop. The role of Gordon is portrayed by former "The O.C." star Ben McKenzie.

So far, the new series has gotten mixed reviews, with McKenzie being praised for his charisma as the young detective and for being able to carry a large cast on his shoulders, while the pilot was criticized for lacking restraint and, for featuring just way too many storylines and characters.

The prequel series airs every Monday at 8pm on Fox.
