Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey inspired the Texas Longhorns football team with a mid-practice speech over the weekend. The actor also led the players with chest-thump-singing.

He told the athletes that he wasn't there to preach to them, but rather, to have a conversation with them.

"Last night I was thinking about what I do, thinking about what you all do, and I was asking myself this question, why do I do what I do? Why am I an actor? And I was gonna ask you all, why do you play football?" he queried.

He continued his speech by asking them questions they could reflect on, such as why they decided to be part of the team and, why they allow their bodies to suffer under the hot sun to practice.

The actor went on to say that after the day is done, they're only really playing for one person - for the guy standing and playing next to them day after day, practice after practice.

"If everyone's laid their head on their pillow at the end of the night and said, 'I did everything I could today,' it's a lot easier to play for the guy next to you," he stated.

After taking a few questions from the players, McConaughey led the team with chest thumping and humming, a signature move of the character he played on "The Wolf of Wall Street". He said he does the move before he does a scene and whenever he's nervous.

"I do that to loosen, loosen myself up because my head's going...I'm thinking too much and I'm nervous before scenes. So I do it to loosen myself up, No. 1. No. 2, I do it because I know other people in the room are looking at me, like, 'What is he doing?' So then I know I'm on my own island, where I don't want 'em knowing what I'm up to," he admitted.

He happened to do the move before he did his scene on "The Wolf of Wall Street" and director Martin Scorsese loved it so much that he added it to the movie.
