Qing-Feng Steamed Dumpling shop has drawn quite an attention at the festival for bringing in its chef to make fresh buns onsite for tourists, so that they can sample the original Beijing pork bun with shallots.

Qing-Feng Steamed Dumpling Shop is over 60 years old and is famous for its attractive, delicious and juicy buns that are thin-skinned buns but have more stuffing.

Among the wide variety of buns, the pork bun with shallots, which was ordered by President Xi Jinping in one unexpected visit to the shop, is the most popular and in demand, a Qing-Feng staff said.

Shanghai Daily noted the long queue in front of Qing-Feng's stall, where people didn't mind waiting for at least 30 minutes for a fresh serving of steamed bun.

Some customers said that they actually were not adapted to the taste, but wanted to try and get a "feel" --and a fill-- of the famous Chinese food.

Meat sauce bun, crab roe bun, and Pan Fried Pork Bun are also popular at the festival.

Participating bun shops from various regions of China have not only brought in their chefs on site but also use original recipes and stuffings from the regions.

During the two-week Steamed Bun Festival, some local restaurants were asked to provide professional pastry chefs who would make sure that the buns are prepared in keeping with the standards of each bun shop, and to ensure that there is enough supply of the buns during peak times.

The Steamed Bun Festival will last until March 23rd.
