The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently had a card in Stockholm, Sweden, with all hometown fighters in the main card being faced with disappointing defeat.
The first fight of the main card showcased a featherweight bout with Niklas Bäckström and American fighter Mike Wilkinson.

Bäckström came out strong at the start of the fight, throwing front kicks and Muay Thai teeps to keep Wilkinson at bay. However, when one front kick Wilkinson flush in the face, it wasn't enough to knock him out, allowing him to throw a counter right.
Bäckström was knocked out in just 1:19 of the first round. Wilkinson received one of the four US $50,000 bonuses for the night.
Next was the light heavyweight bout between Ilir Latifi and Jan Blachowicz.
Blachowicz came forward with a flurry early on which ended with a body kick. It caught Latifi in the liver, made evident when he covered up instantly and backed away.
Blachowicz cornered Latifi, got him to the ground and rained bombs from the top until the referee stepped in at 1:58 of the first.
Another featherweight showdown was featured as the co-main event of the card, between Max Holloway and Akira Corassani.
This was Holloway's third fight in six months, showing that his skills were still sharp from the constant training camps.
Just like the first two fights of the main card, Holloway spoiled Corassani's second UFC fight in his hometown by the first round.
In just three minutes, Holloway got Corassani in the corner and caught him with a straight right and sent him to the canvas, allowing for several blows to be landed until the referee stopped the fight.
Holloway's performance also awarded him a performance of the night bonus.
The main event was a welterweight bout between wrestling-based Rick Story and, Karate and jiu-jitsu fighter Gunnar Nelson.
The fight went back and forth for the full five rounds of the main event.
For the first three rounds, the fight was back-and-forth, with both fighters showcasing their stand-up and takedowns.
In the fourth, Story landed the best shot of the night, dropping Nelson to the canvas. Nelson tried to come back in the fifth, not materializing any effective techniques.
The fight ended with Story winning a split decision.
Bäckström, Latifi, Corossani, and Nelson - all fighters who lived in or near Sweden - lost that night.
