Twitch and Steam want its users to help them label sponsored posts from their platforms.

Amazon's newly acquired video game platform, Twitch, and multiplayer and social networking platform, Steam, teamed-up to issue new rules that ask users to mark content and games they're paid to promote.

The new rules are specifically directed at Steam Curators. It's a feature introduced to the platform in a major update in September. Steam Curators consist of individuals or groups that publish reviews and recommendations on a specific Steam page.

"If you've accepted money or other compensation for making a product review or for posting a recommendation, you must disclose this fact in your recommendation," said a statement in the About Page for Steam Curators.

Twitch announced the new rule and feature to better identify the "Influencer Campaigns" or broadcasters paid to play and promote certain games.

Twitch is now establishing a more transparent approach to its paid programs on its platform and wants to make it a model for other industries, said Twitch's VP of Marketing & Communications Matthew DiPietro.

"Simply put: We want complete transparency and unwavering authenticity with all content and promotions that have a sponsor relationship," DiPietro added.

Twitch users will notice that sponsored channels and newsletters have labels and tweets and are also clearly identified as such.

DiPietro made it clear their new policy refers to Twitch driven campaigns. He suggests following FTC rules about endorsements and testimonials in advertising between broadcasters and publishers alone.
