Raven Symone Does Not Like Being Called African-American and Gay

Raven Symone has opened up to Oprah Winfrey about something she's always wanted out in the open: she does not like being labeled as African-American and gay.

Raven and Oprah began the interview by discussing her August 2013 tweet when the Supreme Court ruled against a ban on same-sex marriage. She had tweeted back then that she can finally get married and that she was proud of the government. Her fans saw the statement as her way of coming out and admitting that she is indeed into the same gender.

The former star of the hit T.V. show "That's so Raven" admitted in the Oprah interview that she is in such an amazing relationship and she is happy with her female partner. She said she wants to keep things private as that is what her family taught her, but she added that she is very proud of what she has become.

Raven noted that she already knew she liked women when she was 12 years old but did not want to be labeled as gay because she is a human who loves humans. She also said she is tired of being called an African-American, insisting that she is an American, period.

Winfrey warned Raven that her refusal to be labeled as African American may set trending topics on social media.

"I don't label myself. I have darker skin. I have a nice, interesting grade of hair. I connect with Caucasian. I connect with Asian. I connect with Black. I connect with Indian. I connect with each culture," Raven responded.

She also admitted hating other celebrities who get upset over scandals about themselves even when they're actually at fault. Raven explained that the reason she does not court controversy and land her name in the tabloids that often is because she keeps her private life really private.
