Opera announced its Opera Mini web browser will be the first browser available for the Tizen-based smartwatch from Samsung.

The Opera Mini will have finger-friendly controls that work on the Samsung Gear S's small 2-inch curved super active-matrix organic light-emitting diode display.

Browser features include Speed dial, which allows users to navigate directly to a web page with a quick tap, and Smart page, which lets users browse through all their social news and updates. The browser will also have a private mode that clears cookies and its history after the program is closed.

The device that will run the app, on the other hand, will have a 360 x 480 pixel resolution; 512 megabytes of RAM; a 1 GHz dual-core processor; 4.1 Bluetooth; GPS/Glonass support and 802.11n Wi-Fi.

The Gear S also has a subscriber identity module slot able to connect to 2G or 3G cellular networks, making it capable of making and receiving phone calls.

It also has international protection marking, also known as IP code and an ingress protection marking of 67. The rating shows the device is completely resistant to dust and can be submerged to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes.

Although being a step forward from its predecessors, the Gear S' battery has been downgraded to only 300 mAh, which is even less than the capacity of the Galaxy Watch R's 410 mAh.

Meanwhile, rumors about Samsung's next generation smartwatch are already surfacing. Reports suggest it will sport a fingerprint scanner that will enable the device to secure payments from the wearable tech.

Balances and transactions via the smartwatch can be checked through text. This might mean Samsung's next smartwatch could have its own network connectivity.

The new setup might be problematic in Samsung's home market of South Korea where PayPal isn't available.
