Bob Bashara To Go On Trial For Wife's Death

Bob Bashara will go on trial Tuesday for the murder of his wife, Jane Bashara, USA Today reported.

From being a suburban husband calling friends and police as he searched for his missing wife, Bashara has became a person of interest in the case, when his wife's body was found apparently strangled in an SUV in a Detroit east side alley in January 2012.

The entire Detroit suburban was shocked by the incident, which got the attention of national media and led to an all-out investigation that was full of controversial twists, including an alternative sexual lifestyle of S&M, multiple mistresses and plots to kill.

Now, the 56-year-old Bashara, who is a charity fundraiser and was once the president of a Rotary Club, is now facing multiple charges, including murder in the first degree.

Judge Vonda Evans, of the Wayne County Circuit, is the one overseeing the case.

According to Evans, the jury selection will start on Tuesday and could last for several days, where 12 jurors will be selected out of 150 people.

She said that four to six people will also be selected as alternates in the trial which can last up to six weeks.

Defense lawyer Michael McCarthy said the trial will be very "vigorous," since both sides have worked hard on the case.

Former Wayne County assistant prosecutor Richard Krisciunas, who also teaches law at the University of Detroit, said the trial will catch the attention of many because it dealt with murder and sex.

"This is TV come to life," he said.

Bashara's former handy man, 50-year-old Joseph Gentz, is expected to testify in the trial.

Gentz has pleaded guilty to second degree murder and is now serving up to 28 years in prison. He confessed that Bashara paid him money to kill his wife, and threatened him as well if he didn't cooperate.

Bob Bashara denied the accusation.

According to prosecutors, Bashara's mistresses and his alternative sexual lifestyle were strong motives for the crime.

Court testimonies have revealed that Bashara has a sex dungeon in one of his properties.

Bashara was sentenced to prison after he admitted that he asked a business owner to find someone he could hire to kill Gentz in prison.

He denies having anything to do with his wife's death.
