"They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever," Morrissey said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, according to The Independent. "If I die, then I die. And if I don't, then I don't," he said.
Morrissey's disclosure comes in the wake of cancelations of tours in the last two years due to llnesses, the most recent being his scheduled performances in the United States in June. He cited a respiratory infection as the reason.
In the recent interview with El Mundo, Morrissey, 55, confessed: "Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that's what illness can do."
He also hinted at continuing to work despite his condition. "I'm not going to worry about that, I'll rest when I'm dead," he said.
Morrissey, however, went on to say that he is now "at an age when I should no longer be making music. Many composers of classical music died at age 34. And I'm still here, and nobody knows what to do with me."
Despite reports of illnesses in the last couple of years, this was the first time that the former Smiths singer mentioned cancer. He was found to be suffering from a bleeding ulcer, pneumonia and food poisoning at different points in 2013, reports Billboard.
Last year he said he was advised by doctors to stop touring but didn't take heed because the lifestyle has been "ingrained" in him.
Morrissey, who has divided opinion among music fans, is currently finishing his first novel and hopes to publish it next year.
"With luck I will be able to stop singing forever, which would make many people happy," he said.
He released his album "World Peace Is None of Your Business" in July, his first in five years. He kicked off his European tour in Portugal on Monday.
