AMC announced that the zombie apocalypse thriller will be returning for a sixth season with showrunner and executive producer Scott Gimple still leading the show even before season five premieres.
AMC President Charlie Collier released a statement saying "We could not be more excited the October 12th premiere of season five of the walking dead, we cannot wait to share the new episodes with fans around the globe and in advance of Sunday's season five premiere, I am also excited to announce that we have locked in a sixth season order of this wonderful and exceptionally crafted series."

He also added "I would like to thank Robert, Scott, the executive producers and the entire cast and crew for giving their all and working so hard to bring this compelling world and rich characters to life. There's plenty more where it came from all thanks to their impressive, collective effort."
Unfortunately, AMC did not announce how many episodes season six will have.
But, do expect quite a few shockers in season five. Actor Steven Young spoke to E! News saying that "There were a couple of scenes that made me look over and ask "what's going on and how is this legal?".
The actor also added that the shows scenes are grounded and real and that the some of the scenes that were shot would not work on network TV. Maybe, they would end up in the season five DVD release.
It comes as no surprise that the show has been renewed seeing as it is currently the highest-rated show in cable TV history and the Number 1 show on TV in the adults 18-49 year old demographic.
