Kanye West Has 'Finished 20 Songs' for 'Yeezus' Follow-Up, Says Co-Writer

Kanye West has finished 20 songs for his follow-up to 2013's "Yeezus," according to his co-writer Malik Yusef.

Yusef, who has constantly worked with West throughout his career and is signed to the rapper's GOOD Music label, revealed that the hip-hop star is now in the recording process of his as-yet untitled seventh album, NME says. He likened the record to a pair of Timberland boots.

"This album is different. It's like a pair of Timberlands; like how Timberlands are not quite leather and not quite suede," he told Rolling Stone. "It's not the smooth, slick Chicago music sound we have right now and it's not the ruggedness of just 'hip-hop hip-hop hip-hop,'" he continues.

Their approach to creating the album, according to him, follows West's strict instructions as to how he wants it to come out.

"Kanye was very declarative in his statement of 'I don't want this to be a regular Kanye album. I don't want this to be what people are familiar with,'" Yusef said.

Yusef first worked with West in 2003, when the then-fledgling rapper appeared on his track "Wouldn't You Like to Ride." He has since collaborated with West on a number of songs throughout the years and helped him with creating "Yeezus."

He said of the Grammy-nominated record: "'Yeezus' was a hard album to work on because it was a departure from where I wanted to be with our music," Yusef said.

He also talked about his working relationship with West during the making of the album.

"We fought over 'Yeezus' every day," he said laughing. "There was no friendly disagreements. It was definitely a war. It's 'I don't give a [expletive], Malik. It's a Kanye album, not a Malik Yusef album'" the 43-year-old hip-hop artist said.

A release date for the album has not been confirmed yet.
