Tony Award Winner Marian Seldes Dies at Age 86

Timothy Seldes released a statement saying that his sister Marian Seldes has passed away "It is with deep sadness that I announce that my sister, Marian Seldes, has died. My beloved sister was an extraordinary woman whose great love for theater, teaching and acting was surpassed only by her deep love for her family." The actress died Monday evening at her Central Park South Home in New York City following a long battle with an undisclosed illness.

Marian began her career when she performed alongside Dame Judith Anderson in John Gielgud's staging of Madea back in 1947. She then went on to become one of the most enduring stage legend's through her performances in Equus and Deathtrap starring alongside the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Richard Burton.

Seldes won her first Tony award in 1967 after her performance in A Delicate Balance by Edward Albee and in 2010 she was awarded the Tony for lifetime achievement where the actress was met with a standing ovation. 

The actress also went into TV and Film, she played Eleanor Roosevelt, appeared in the Truman show and most recently appeared as Mr. Big's mother in Sarah Jessica Parker's hit TV show, Sex and the City. She was also a talented writer, having penned two books of her own entitled The Bright lighs: A Theater life and Time Together.

Aside from her colorful and successful career, Marian was also known for calling everyone "Darling" and it's been said that she had a way of making you believe she was fully concentrated on you and you alone.
