Construction of New Beijing Airport to Affect 59 Villages

A total of 11 villages will be relocated while another 48 villages have been told to take appropriate measures when the construction of the new Beijing airport in the Daxing district begins.

Residents, offices, and businesses in the 11 villages will be forced to relocate to avoid the expected noise of the construction works and from the planes that will be taking off and landing when the airport operation begins.

The new airport, located on the border of Yufa and Lixian towns and 45 kilometers away from Tiananmen Square, is scheduled to be completed in 2018 and set to have handled 70 million passengers by 2025.

According to a report published by the official People's Daily, another 48 villages will be affected by the noise pollution from the new airport. While residents and business owners of these villages were not advised to relocate, they were told to take appropriate measures to address the noise pollution. The 48 villages have hospitals, schools, and several business establishments.

Residents and business owners of the affected villages have already been informed about the possible noise pollution that they will experience when the new airport is opened.

The new Beijing airport will feature four runways, which will handle up to 620,000 flights by 2025, and 700,000 square meters of terminal space.

The new Beijing airport will also be accessible through a 59.2 kilometers subway line that will have five stations. These stations will be located in Mudanyuan, Jinrongjie, Caogia, Nanyuan and the new airport station.

The subway line forms part of the overall airport project, local media reported. The subway line will have maximum speed of more than 120 kilometers per hour and affords passengers a traffic-free, fastest route to the airport.
