Generali Ladies Linz: Ivanovic Wins Opening Match but Withdrew Second Round Match Against Brengle

Second seeded Ana Ivanovic won her opening match against Pauline Parmentier but withdrew her second round matchup against Madison Brengle because of a hip injury at the Generali Laies Linz in Austria on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Serb was in form in the first set, breaking the Frenchwoman twice to take the set at 6-3 but she then asked for medical treatment while trailing 2-1 in the second set when she complained of pain on her left thigh.

After the time out, the 2008 French Open champion went on to win five straight games to finish the set and the match 6-3 6-2 which lasted 66 minutes.
Ivanovic is a two-time former champion of the event, winning it in 2008 and 2010 and reached the finals last year when she was defeated by defending champion Angelique Kerber.
Kerber, however, decided not to defend her title this year.
The recent Toray Pan Pacific Open winner was interviewed on court after her win and said that she has been having hip issues for the past few weeks.
Later in the day, Ivanovic consulted doctors and announced of her withdrawal from her second round match against American qualifier Brengle due to hip injury.
Ivanovic also pulled out of the Open GDF Suez in France early this year due to the same hip injury.
The Serbian star has won three WTA events this year; the Monterrey Open, Aegon Classic and the recent event in Tokyo.
She has already qualified for the eight-woman short list at the year-ending WTA Finals in Singapore slated to start Oct. 20.
With her injury and less than two weeks before the start of the prestigious event, will Ivanovic be able to recover on time?
World No. 1 Serena Williams is also in the injured list after pulling out of her match against Samantha Stosur in the quarterfinals of the China Open in Beijing.
If either player is not fit to play in Singapore plus China's Li Na retiring from tennis, then the next candidate that will most probably compete is Kerber.
