Google+ is Still Alive and Kicking

Google's new social media Chief David Besbris denied rumors the company's social network Google+ is coming to an end.

Besbris stressed he has no idea where the speculations come from, reports said.

After the unexpected departure of former Google+ head Vic Gundotra last April, Besbris, the former Vice President of engineering for the tech giant, took over Gundotra's position and now oversees all the company's social products.

In an interview with Re/code, Besbris confirmed Google+ is in the social media business for the "long haul."

"I don't think of it as an endgame, I think we're in social - like we're in everything at Google - for the long haul," the new boss said.

According to Besbris, the search engine giant is "very happy with the progress of Google+". During Gundotra's departure, Google's CEO Larry Page even said he'll keep working on building the stuff and he's very happy with it, he added.

Additionally, the new chief also assured Google intends to continue investing in the service. The rumor about reducing the size of the Google+ team was also not true, recode reported.

Based on some sources, the Google+ team is bigger than ever and it has "new offices on the east side of Google's sprawling Mountain View, Calif., campus."

"We're the largest we've ever been. We weren't booted to any part of campus, we chose to come over here," Besbris said.

Besbris reiterated the social network is still a high priority for the company. He declined to comment on the current number of its users, however.

"People underestimate the connection Google+ has with its users around interests," he added.
