Maggie Cheung Prepares for Indie Music Debut

Hong kong's famous star Maggie Cheung dives into the music world. Seriously.
Maggie's latest foray into indie music was confirmed by Modern Sky Records saying she is now preparing to explore genres such as rock and electronica.
Despite Maggie's success in the entertainment world, she believes there is a lot more she can do and would like to share to her fans, among them her love for music.

"I love music. It gives me a kind of feeling I can hardly express. I have been contemplating, with my passion for music, one day I can make my own and share to my fans," Maggie said.
Songwriter Song Dongye, well-known for the indie "Miss Dong", said Maggie had approached him for a collaboration on her forthcoming single.
"I didn't really believe it at first. I felt like I was at the wrong time and space. Besides, I didn't even know she could sing," Dongye said.
Maggie's upcoming song, which she herself wrote, will have a wider range of elements than Miss Dong's simple acoustics.
Dongye describes Maggie as "a very talkative lady who understands music."
Maggie had been dabbling in music for some time. She once performed at a CCTV New Year Gala with co-star Tony Leung where she earned praises for daring to sing the movie theme song "In the mood for love" live.
"It is Maggie Cheung's unique voice and her out-of-the-ordinary taste for music that touched me to sign her up," said Shen Lihui, founder of the Indie Record label.
'Unique' was a kind word, in fact, compared to what Chinese netizens had to say about Maggie's voice.
She had been harshly criticized online when audio clips of her musical performances went viral.
"I can't handle it anymore. Just go back to acting," a critic said.
A survey showed that netizens and some music industry insiders are not enthusiastic about Maggie's music debut.
"She has to change her course because she has a terrible voice. No amount of promotion for her recording could change the fact that she is unfit for the industry. It will definitely flop," a certain Mr. W commented.
"I think it is good she signed up with Modern Sky Records. We already have too many singers, we need a new gimmick for the music industry to survive. Maggie won't get hurt even if her recording flops, she doesn't need more fame, anyway. And she definitely doesn't need more money. For Maggie, singing is just for fun," said a certain Mr. Q.
Asked about Maggie's contract price, Modern Sky Records said it was "just an appropriate market price."
