The spending of the government officials in China has reportedly decreased by approximately $9bn over the last year.

In an effort to curb the spending of its government officials, the current Chinese administration cut down on expenses involving trips abroad, extravagant receptions, and use of official vehicles throughout the year.

A report from BBC's Martin Patience revealed that the expenses allotted to the use of government vehicles, costs of lavish receptions or public events, and extravagant trips had been cut down to roughly a third of the expenditures recorded the year prior to the implementation of the anti-graft and corruption campaign.

This declaration was released following the campaign of President Xi Jinping to put a stop to the allegedly prevalent unscrupulous working behaviors and practices of some of the officials in the Chinese government. Moreover, the announcement signified the nearing conclusion of the rule of the Communist Party.

In addition, a report from Bloomberg last Tuesday disclosed that the Chinese government had managed to free the administration of 162, 629 'phantom workers' from the payroll following the enactment of the anti-corruption campaign commenced in 2012.

"This would be an important step towards making China a fairer place rather than having people with power being able to take money out of the system and put in their own pockets," shared David Zweig, a Hong Kong University of Science and Technology political science professor.

Throughout his leadership, President Xi has repeatedly asserted that corruption practiced by government officials serve as the hazard to the existence of the party. These efforts are also said to signify the desire of the president to "rectify" the government from issues regarding financial corruption and bureaucracy.

Apart from this ideal, one of the purposes in implementing the mass-line campaign, as it has been widely known, is to establish a stronger tie or connection between the entire Chinese population and the party's officials.
