Philippine authorities announced on Wednesday the arrest of the alleged primary suspect in the brutal killing of the mother of Filipina veteran actress Cherry Pie Picache.

According to police, they already had in their custody Michael Dy Flores, tagged as the one who entered Zenaida Sison's home on September 19 and left the old woman with head injuries and multiple stab wounds in different parts of the body.

Police said a concerned citizen had informed them of the suspect's whereabouts late Tuesday evening.

Authorities collared Flores while smoking away his time outside a house at a subdivision in Laguna province before dawn Wednesday.

Police was able to establish Flores identity through images taken by a closed-circuit television camera footage taken near Sison's house.

Also, authorities were able to determine that the bloodied short pants and shirt discovered at the crime scene belonged to the 29-year-old suspect.

On that fateful day, the actress said she was alarmed after her calls were left unanswered by her 75-year-old mother.

She rushed to the house and was shocked to see the bloodied body of her mom sprawled inside her room of her two-story house in Quezon City.

It was later found out that the victim's cash and assorted jewelry worth P500,000 (US$ 11,200) was missing.

In defense, the suspect claimed that he acted only as a lookout and that he had two other companions when the crime was allegedly committed.

However, police said five witnesses pointed to Flores as the killer.

Sison reportedly live by herself with only stay-out helpers to go to her house to do housekeeping and gardening.

Flores is one of them and he has since gone missing after the incident.

Authorities later learned that Flores had been the subject of complaints for theft of his three previous employers.

Police said the suspect may face possible charges of robbery with homicide.

Aside from being famous locally, Picache is also one of the internationally well-known Filipina actresses who have received various nominations and awards from several international bodies for her masterful acting.

In 2007, Picache has won the best actress award in the ninth annual Osian's Cinefan festival for her role as a mother who prepares her child for adoption by an American family in drama movie "Foster Child."

The Osian's-Cinefan is one of the world's most important festivals devoted to Asian and Arab cinema.
