China's central government on Wednesday updated its English-language website as part of its efforts to boost global ties, with China Daily assisting in the process.
The government held a ceremony for the launch of the updated site on Wednesday. The updated version contains six major sections including Premier, News, State Council, Services, Policies and Archive, according to China Daily.

The news agency's deputy editor-in-chief, Gao Anming, said they will set the government website as the primary option for English-language readers who want to view China's policies and gain more insight into the country's leaders and development.
China Daily will employ newer technology and professional staff to make that goal possible, Gao said.
"It opens another window to the outside world for the Chinese government," CCTV News Channel deputy director Yang Fuqing said of the website.
China's updated government web portal also helps people from other nations understand China, while in turn helping the latter improve its communication with the international community, Yang added.
Niva Whyman, one of the editors of China Daily, expressed his hope that what they have done will reflect the State Council's objectives. The whole team did their best to make the site "dynamic and state-of-the-art," Whyman said.
China Daily was the right news agency to help the Chinese government to update its official website because it has managed to rise above its rivals in terms of audience base and international social media reach, Tsinghua University journalism professor Shi Anbin said.
Shi praised China Daily's ability to grasp the "international codes of communication" by showcasing people's opinions in its stories.
To help China further broaden its reach and tap the "millennium generation," Shi urged the website team to create a mass-data platform that foreigners can use to look for reports and official statistics.
Professor Shi said the most important part of building a website is to connect with the said generation, so the government site's team should work hard to reach out to those within the age 18 to 40 age bracket and show them what the government does for them.
