Despite Lab Not Reaching International Standards, UFC Stands with Drug Test Results for Cung Le

Despite the fact that the lab in China did not reach the standards of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) criteria, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) stands by the failure of Cung Le's drug tests.

Last August, the UFC headed to Macau for an event pitting Vietnamese Le against British trash-talker Michael Bisping.

Due to a photo that Le released in Instagram days before the fight, wherein he looked incredibly jacked and muscular for a 42-year old, Bisping called for a drug test to make sure that his opponent did not take any Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs).

After a losing effort by Le, he went on to take the drug test and fail.

However, news has recently surfaced saying that the Hong Kong Functional Medical Testing Center (HKFMTC) - the medical facility that oversaw Le's drug test - did not meet the WADA' standards for drug testing.

As the facts state, a phlebotomist took samples of blood from the main event fighters and immediately shipped it to HKFMTC. A month later, the tests returned saying that Le had been using Human Growth Hormone.

Le claimed innocence and questioned the process that the hospital used.

In addition, the website of HKFMTC lists a number of procedures that they do such as: offering to test metabolic function, examining hair for heavy metals or nails for drug usage, and even a service called "autism medical testing."

It does not indicate anywhere that the hospital tests for PEDs. They are also not accredited by WADA, which has a set of standards used for HGH testing.

Still, the UFC has decided to stand by the diagnosis of the hospital and Le's suspension. They also declined to answer any questions regarding the process used.
