Gionee Elife S5.1 now holds the Guinness World Record for the slimmest smartphone at 5.1 mm which dethrones Gionee's previous model, the Elife S5.5 that measures 5.5 mm.
The Chinese company apparently broke its own record.
"We are excited to have made it to the Guinness World Records for the world's thinnest smartphone category," said Arvind Vohra.
Elife S5.1 sports a thin shell that consists of both glass and metal. It has a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen-based display with a 720x1280 pixels resolution.
The phone comes with a 5 megapixel camera on the front and an 8 megapixel rear camera with an LED flash.
The phone is powered by a 2100 mAh battery capacity and runs on the Android 4.3 operating system.
Under the hood, it has a 1.2GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 1GB of RAM and features 16GB worth of non-expandable built-in memory storage.
The company said the smartphone supports LTE connectivity along with GPS and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has a proximity sensor, an accelerometer and an ambient light sensor.
Elife S5.1 comes in white, black, pink and a variety of green mint colors.
The Shenzhen-based company, which was founded in 2002, had a 4.7 percent market share in China back in 2003. It moved into other markets such as India, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Russia and the Middle East.
The company just recently began focusing on designing slimmer smartphones.
