Taiwan Raises Mainland Chinese Tourists Quota

While most countries around the world spend millions of dollars to promote their places to Chinese tourists, Taiwan continues to set limit on the number of mainland Chinese tourists that will be allowed to enter the island on a daily basis.
According to the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, tourism officials have decided to raise the daily quota for individual mainland Chinese tourists in Taiwan from 3,000 to 4,000 as part of its effort to raise the annual number of Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan.

For tour groups, or for those mainland Chinese tourists who enter Taiwan in groups, the tourism bureau said the daily quota has been reduced from 8,000 to 5,000, regardless of the travel season. The group limit will be implemented starting 2015.
The reason for the decrease was not immediately disclosed. It came as a surprise to most Chinese tour operators who were given up to 8,000 daily quota by Taiwan especially during peak season.
Taiwan Eyes Southeast Asian Tourists
While it sets daily limit for mainland Chinese travelers, Taiwan continues to entice tourists from other Southeast Asian countries, without any daily limit.
According to Tourism Bureau Director David Hsieh, Taiwan is targeting tourists from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan. The number of tourists visiting Taiwan from those countries has increased significantly over the past years.
Hsieh said Taiwan is even considering to relax some visa requirements for tourists coming from those countries just so they would be more interested to come to Taiwan.
100 Million Chinese Travelers
Mainland Chinese tourists have been the target of countries that want to cash in on the booming outbound tourism market of China. Experts said more than 100 million Chinese tourists will be traveling abroad and the number will continue to grow every year.
The British Government has already signed an agreement with China for a possible visa-free policy that will allow Chinese tourists to come to the United Kingdom for a number of days without visa.
