The U.S. Department of Commerce said it will levy financial penalties on Chinese companies importing into the U.S. chlorinated isocyanurates, which are used as sanitizing, disinfecting and bleaching agents.

The Commerce Department said it would issue a countervailing duty order on imports of the chlorine-containing derivatives of isocyanuric acid because U.S. companies are threatened with material injury from the product.

The Department started an investigation more than a year ago in response to a petition filed by Clearon Corp. and Occidental Chemical Corporation, which said Chinese exporters received improper government subsidies.

In September, the U.S. Commerce Department announced its final determination that Chinese producers and exporters of chlorinated isocyanurates received countervailable subsidies ranging from more than 1.5 percent to over 20 percent.

Imports of these products from China were estimated at $168.6 million U.S. dollars last year, according to Xinhua.

The Department's public report Chlorinated Isocyanurates from China and Japan will be available after November 11, 2014.
