(Photo : REUTERS/Khalil Ashaw) Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters help a fellow fighter who was wounded during what the FSA said was an airstrike by forces loyal to Syria's President Bashar al-Assad in the southern Idlib countryside July 9, 2014.
Islamic State (ISIS) militants posted a video Tuesday that showed they were fighting not only Kurdish troops in the city of Kobane, but also against President Bashar Assad's supporters, a first since the civil war started three years ago.
Before the video's release, Kurdish troops were the only known forces to battle ISIS. The troops get assistance from YPG, a known Kurdish militia also called the People's Protection Unit that leads the ground attack against the extremists.

Also, U.S.-led coalition troops handle air combat that is responsible for launching airstrikes against ISIS targets.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group, they have yet to verify whether Assad regime fighters joined in the fight against ISIS because media access in the embattled city remains limited.
However, the group's Facebook page said the Syrian regime's troops were battling against the opposition group Ahrar al-Sham, which is not affiliated to the ISIS militants.
The Syrian regime is focused on taking back the region of Aleppo, but it would be more strategic for them to fight against the advancing ISIS in Kobane. The city is located in a border that leads to the country's oil fields, according to the IBT.
The U.S.-led air attacks in the embattled regions in Syria began in September that focused on militant strongholds in the northern part of the country, while Syrian air forces targeted Islamic State groups in the South of Idlib's Aleppo region.
The U.S. coalition forces launched air strikes in the Syrian region, that has majority of the oil fields in the country, a move which created a "no-fly zone" in the site, and has limited Kurdish air troops to the western part of the region.
However, in an interview with the International Business Times, YOG spokesman Redur Xilil, said the coalition airstrikes have been effective in targeting major militant groups, including the enemy's armored vehicles, tanks and artillery.
Xilil added that the city of Kobane would have fallen into the hands of the militants on Wednesday, but the continuous air attacks have slowed the advance of the extremists.
