Sony Plays Follow-the-Leader in Chinese Console Market

Sony (SNE) is looking to follow on Microsoft's (MSFT) lead in the Chinese gaming market, with huge early sales of 100,000 units in the first day, already beating the 23,000 Xbox One sales in Japan over the past few months.

The Japanese manufacturer has managed to acquire an affiliate factory in Shanghai's new free-trade zone, allowing the PS4, PS3 and potentially the PS Vita to be imported into China and sold en-masse.
The PlayStation consoles will apparently be shipped in December. The affiliate factory will be able to handle 200,000 units per year, a lot lower than what Sony is able to import in the United States and Europe, already exceeding 10 million sales.
Sony has still not announced any details on the China launch, but it likely to only be the PS4 this year, with the limit of 200,000 units. Games for PS4 will still be subject to censorship and bans, the government still aren't happy with games like Call of Duty and Titanfall making U.S. heroes and China the bad guys.
China officially banned consoles in the country in 2000, but stopped the ban in late 2013. Microsoft was quick to import into the country, but Nintendo has yet to even make a move into the Chinese market. At a time where the Wii U is not finding any interest, this should be concerning for investors and fans of Nintendo.
Gaming in China is a huge market, but not console gaming, obviously due to the ban. Online games like League of Legends, Dragon Speed Online, QQ Speed and MMORPG's take up a good chunk of the market, and the PS4/Xbox One doesn't have a popular multiplayer online battle arena.
