Google Offers Doctor House Calls Via Video

A new feature currently in testing could help Google (GOOG) revive the idea of the house call by offering free video calls between patients and doctors.
As part of the expansion on its Helpouts service, Google will now offer video calls to remote doctors, who can figure out the problem. Helpouts is Google's online collaboration service that allows users to share their expertise through live video.

Engadget confirmed the feature is being tested, after a Reddit user spotted the feature on Android. Google is known for launching programs without announcing them to see the public's early reactions.
Called Telemedicine, the service is currently free and Google is subsidizing the cost, partly. If it goes over a general medical examination, the patient will need to pay the cost to go to a general hospital or get further examination online.
Once the service goes live, it is expected to work in the same way as most Helpouts, with hourly or minutely payments to the helper. Doctors will be able to set their times and prices, allowing them to schedule online calls with their work in the clinic.
