Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd has developed a core technology for wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) networks five times faster than the current maximum speed, reports said Sunday.
Samsung's new-generation Wi-Fi technology allows users to transfer data at speeds of up to 4.6 gigabits per second (Gbps) or 575 megabits per second (Mbps), which is incredibly fast.

Compared to Samsung's currently available 108Mbps, the newly-developed Wi-Fi technology now offers five times faster Internet access on its existing consumer electronic devices.
At this speed, users can transfer a 1 gigabyte (GB) movie between devices within three seconds.
They can also stream uncompressed high-definition videos in real time from their mobile devices with the 60GHz Wi-Fi technology, Samsung added.
Samsung research and development center head Kim Chang-yong said the company has successfully surpassed the barriers to the commercialization of the 60GHz Wi-Fi technology.
"New and innovative changes await Samsung's next-generation devices" as new possibilities opened up for the future development of Wi-Fi technology," Mr. Kim added.
The tech firm expects to apply its new Wi-Fi technology to a wide range of products, including audio-visual and medical devices and telecommunication equipment.
The commercialization of the unlicensed 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology is expected as early as next year, reports confirmed.
