Tony winner Alan Cumming revealed all in his memoir, "Not My Father's Son: A Memoir", sharing that his childhood was filled with terror as he grew up with a verbally and physically abusive father.
The title of the said memoir sprung from his father's announcement that he was not his biological son. Cumming comes to terms with the fact that his father claimed that he was the product of an affair. Throughout the book, the actor narrates his search for the truth and how it has affected his life.

Aside from his memoir, Cumming has also been in the newspapers recently as one of the most outspoken celebs to passionately campaign for his native Scotland's independence. He wept as the results were announced, sharing with The New York Daily News that he was definitely not a fan of British Prime Minister David Cameron.
According to Cumming, "I think he's awful for a variety of reasons. He, to me, is part of the establishment, part of a group of wealthy, privileged people who have controlled Britain and kind of derided and derailed Scotland for centuries."
The actor shared that he did not hold any personal grudge against Cameron and he does not dislike him as a person. Rather, Cumming stated that he dislikes the system Cameron belongs to which allowed him to reach the position and stature he currently holds "without merit".
Although Cumming clearly dislikes Cameron, there is one controversial public figure the actor has high regard for. Oddly enough, the "Cabaret" actor is very fond of former White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.
Cumming shared that he has known Lewinsky for around 16 years. "She's absolutely one of the most loving, fun, clever, tender people. The fact that she's been able to remain such an amazing person with all that horrible bile that was heaped upon her as a young woman is testament to the person she is," he shared.
