Following his release from prison after having been detained for 30 years, a convicted killer barely enjoyed his freedom as he is currently accused of bludgeoning his own mother to death in their home on Sunday.
In less than 48 hours after he had been freed from prison, Steven Pratt's freedom could already be recanted as he is the primary suspect for the murder of his mother, Gwendolyn Pratt.

Police records shown that the 64-year-old mother had been bashed in the head on Sunday, as reported by The Press of Atlantic City. Medical examination of the victim revealed that she incurred severe injuries in her head as a result of the physical attack allegedly by her 45-year-old ex-con son. Her body was discovered at roughly 6:30 in the morning in her Atlantic City home.
The 45-year-old suspect had been paroled on Friday following his completion of the 30-year imprisonment imposed upon him after having been proven guilty of murder.
According to the newspaper, Pratt had been convicted for the death of his neighbor whom he fatally shot when he was still a teenager.
This incident occurred in 1984, in which investigators said that Pratt, who was then 15 years old, shot his neighbor in face and shoulder following an argument erupting in the Carver Hall apartments. Pratt had been tried as an adult for the killing. He was convicted of the murder charge in 1986.
Upon his release from prison, Pratt's family members and friends welcomed him home with a party to celebrate his newfound freedom.
However, Pratt had been heard by one of the neighbors requesting help from a cousin regarding a place to stay as he did not want to be with an aunt whom he'd had arguments with.
"It's so devastating. You just never know what people are going through," shared Ruan Tilghman-Pugh, one of Pratt's neighbors, to The Press.
At present, Pratt is detained at Atlantic County jail due to his alleged connection with the murder of his mother. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
